Andre Rhey C. Haro and Sharmaine M. Grande, a senior and junior high school studes of PSHS-WV, emerged Second Place out of twenty-one (21) national qualifiers in the 2012 Philippine Nuclear Science Quiz (PNSQ) National Level Competition held last December 13, 2012 at Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City.

 

It has been noted that Haro and Grande, along with Negros Occidental High School representatives Lee Araby B. Desabelle and Ma. Sheena M. Escordial, have respectively won First and Second Place in the PNSQ Regional Elimination Round conducted last November 26, 2012 , thus, the two winning teams represented Western Visayas in the PNSQ National Round.

 

Negros Occidental High School, on the other hand, landed as a semi-finalist in the said competition.

 

The PNSQ is anchored with the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Nuclear Research Institute’s (DOST-PNRI) 40th Atomic Energy Week (AEW) Celebration which kicked off on December 10, 2012. The annual celebration aimed to hone awareness and understanding among Filipinos in terms of nuclear science and technology’s valuable relevance in food and agriculture, health and medicine, industry energy and the environment.

 

Joining the roster of this year’s PNSQ awardees are champs Alec Benjamin G. Ramirez and Hannah Jael M. Cadusale of Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial Dumaguete High School, and Third Placers Glynis Robert C. Aguilar, and Regiel Christian O. Man-usara of Philippine Science High School- Southern Mindanao.

 

The 2012 Philippine Nuclear Science Quiz hailed winners received Php 30,000.00, Php 20,000.00, Php 10, 000.00, a medal, a trophy for the school and a plaque of recognition for the coach.
